Two nomadic males claim this strategic outcrop as their own. They mark the rocks and the ground, leaving their scent and presence as a clear declaration of conquest. They spend the rest of the day resting atop the kopje, surveying the landscape, regaining strength, and reinforcing their bond through quiet gestures of closeness and trust.

Although the Golden Boys outnumber their rivals, they are well aware that age is no longer on their side, and that any decision to engage in a fight to the death with younger males from rival prides must be weighed carefully. Experience and caution now guide their actions as much as strength once did. Nevertheless, one of the brothers takes advantage of the shelter of his territory to roar to the four winds that they can still put up a fight and defend themselves.

As evening falls, the Gol Kopje pride begins to stir after a long day spent resting under the sun. One by one, their bodies come to life, and the calm gives way to a quiet, contained energy that signals the start of nocturnal activity. It is time to move, to hunt, and to seek a new location, taking advantage of the abundance of prey brought by the Great Migration now present in the area. Meanwhile, this female seems more interested in my camera than in hunting

It is not known whether these two lions are brothers or not, but they have formed a strong coalition and show it by strengthening their bond through affectionate gestures.

In the early hours of the morning, two large nomadic brother move decisively into the territories of resident prides. Bound by a strong coalition forged over time, they advance with purpose toward the land of the Punda pride at Zebra Kopje. Just a few weeks earlier, this pride had been driven out by the Gol Kopje lions into the open plains, abandoning the kopje that had long been their refuge.

On a bright, sunlit morning, we found the Gol Kopje pride out on the open plains, scattered and calm after the night’s activity. At the center of the scene, one of the coalition males was indulging in a feast on a wildebeest he had hunted during the night. Still fresh, the carcass was consumed with speed and determination, without hesitation.

On the final morning of my stay in Namiri, we witnessed a scene filled with tension and meaning. The two males of the Barafu pride moved forward with determination, chasing the famous three brothers known as the Golden Boys. It was not a direct confrontation, but a clear act of pressure—an unmistakable display of strength and intent ahead of a future attempt to claim their territory. Now one of the Barafu males quenches his thirst to recover and head off to rest

Here we can see one of the Golden Boys brothers. Before finding a comfortable spot to sleep through the hot day, a morning dung bath always comes in handy—to stay cool and protect themselves from annoying insects.

The early morning stillness in Namiri Plains is broken only by the soft breaths of the Semetu pride. In this striking image, the lions gather closely around a shallow waterhole, their golden coats glowing against the muted light of a cloud-dappled sky. One lioness locks eyes with the camera, her gaze intense and unflinching, while a cub in the center looks on with innocent curiosity. Around them, siblings rest, nuzzle and drink — a scene filled with tenderness and quiet strength. The composition draws us into the heart of the pride, inviting us to witness the wild not as something distant, but as something deeply alive and present.

In the soft light of early morning, the Semetu Pride emerges in formation, advancing steadily across the open plains of Namiri, in the heart of the Serengeti.
The lionesses lead with purpose and strength — one of them locking eyes with the camera in a piercing, unflinching stare. Behind them, the cubs follow in tight formation, protected and disciplined, their small paws stepping where the adults tread.

There’s unity in their movement, power in their posture — a moment that feels more like a military march than a morning stroll.
The wild, organized and majestic.

As the first light spreads gently across Namiri Plains, the Semetu pride gathers tightly around a waterhole. Several lionesses drink from the shallow puddle, while others rest or keep watch. In the center, two cubs stand out — one looking directly at the camera with youthful curiosity, its face full of wonder and confidence, while another appears mid-step, alert but calm. At the edge of the frame, a lioness gazes with quiet authority, her stance firm and protective. The wide sky above and the low angle of the shot draw us into this intimate family moment, where the rhythm of wild life unfolds with grace, power and connection.

In the soft blue-grey light of morning, a lion walks directly toward us, his stride steady and gaze unwavering. He is one of the five males from the Saba Bora coalition, the dominant males of the Semetu Pride, and responsible for the fall of Bob Junior. The light is present but not yet direct, casting a quiet clarity across the landscape that defines the edges of his mane and the tension in his moving body.

Perched atop a sunlit kopje in Namiri Plains, these young cubs from the Zebra Kopje Pride wait patiently for their mothers to return from the hunt. With the vast Serengeti stretching below them, the kopje becomes their safe haven — a natural nursery where play, naps, and watchful glances fill the morning hours.

Under the rule of dominant males Pretty Boy and Grumpy, this pride thrives in structure and discipline. The cubs have been well taught: no matter what, they won’t descend from the kopje until the lionesses return. Their loyalty, patience, and instinct reflect generations of survival in the wild. A moment of calm, balance, and trust — high above the grasslands.

As the mid-morning sun warms the plains of Namiri, a family of lionesses and their playful cubs from the Zebra Kopje Pride begin their slow ascent up the kopje. One by one, they reach the rocky summit — a quiet, elevated refuge where they’ll spend the rest of the day resting, grooming, and keeping watch over the Serengeti.

Their pride is under the protection of two dominant males: Pretty Boy and Grumpy, who patrol the territory while the lionesses care for the young.
Up here, above the grasslands, they find peace, safety, and the stillness of the wild.

In the early hours of an August morning, this impressive adult lioness gazes curiously and intently at the camera in the Linyanti area of Chobe National Park, Botswana. This region, near the border with Namibia, is made up of tall grasses and reeds that serve as both a refuge for resting with her cubs and a perfect ambush spot when preparing to hunt.

At the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta, in Khwai, Botswana, a group of four lionesses hunted a massive buffalo at the end of the day. But before they could feed, the dominant male claimed the prey and began devouring it. The four lionesses had to wait at a safe distance until the male finished his meal and moved away so they could eat. It's chilling to watch as this large male tear off and chews chunks of meat while staring at the camera.

In this striking photograph, a powerful male leopard strides confidently through the dry grasses of the Okavango Delta. His muscular body, covered in a mesmerizing pattern of rosettes, exudes both elegance and raw strength. The contrast of his spotted coat against the subdued tones of the savanna highlights his presence as one of the most elusive and majestic big cats.

The lynxs’ piercing eyes are fixed ahead, full of intensity and focus, embodying both elegance and wild instinct. The contrast of its spotted fur against the monochrome landscape highlights the beauty of this elusive and endangered predator in the Sierra de Andújar.

In August 2023, I went on a 10-day photography trip to Hudson Bay, Manitoba, aiming to photograph polar bears in their natural habitat. During a tundra hike, the group spotted two adult bears, and one approached us. Guides instructed the participants to stay close together to appear as a large mass, never kneel or run, and step forward in unison if the bear came too close. With noises, shouts, and coordinated steps, they managed to stop the bear, which halted just 20 meters away, avoiding a more dangerous encounter.

The 4th of August I was on a trek in the Kibale National Park. Next to us, a noisy group of chimpanzees were having dinner at the top of the trees. Suddenly, one of them came down to the floor for a rest. He was looking curiously at me. Not afraid, but relaxed. It seemed that he felt  hidden and safe and not visible. This moment lasted a while.

Mother and Baby Eastern Mountain Gorillas from Rushegura family group. While I was resting after more than 5 hours trekking in the middle of the impenetrable jungle, this female gorilla and her baby walked just next to me and decided to stop and sit on my leg using it as a chair. While the female was eating, the baby looked at me curiously. 5 minutes later the couple continued peacefully along the path following the enormous silverback male.
